Delete your Folio Writer data

Folio Writer lets you delete specific data in the app without closing your account. You can also delete your entire account. Deletions are permanent and cannot be undone.

Delete some data in the app (keep your account)

Open app.foliowriter.com or the Folio Writer Android app and sign in. Then use any of the options below.

Delete a manuscript you own (solo chat)

1. In the chat list, select the manuscript (or open it and use chat info).
2. Choose Delete and confirm.

Deleted: that manuscript and its chapters, scenes, characters, notes, and chat history.
Kept: your account, other manuscripts, friends, and settings.

Leave a shared chat

1. Open the chat, then open Chat info.
2. Tap Leave chat and confirm.

Deleted: your membership and access to that chat.
Kept: the chat and its content for other members; your account and other data.

Delete an LLM provider and API keys

1. Go to Settings → LLM providers.
2. Select a provider and tap Delete, then confirm.

Deleted: that provider’s name, base URL, default model, and encrypted API key stored with Folio Writer.
Kept: your account and other providers. Stories using the deleted provider fall back to your default provider.

Remove a friend

1. Go to Settings → Friends.
2. Tap Remove next to the friend and confirm.

Deleted: the mutual friend connection.
Kept: your account, manuscripts, and other settings.

Compact chat context (remove older messages)

1. Open a chat.
2. Tap the Compact context button in the chat header and confirm.

Deleted: older chat messages in that chat (replaced with a summary).
Kept: your account, the manuscript, and newer messages.

Delete your entire account

Use this if you want all of your Folio Writer data removed and your account closed.

1. Open app.foliowriter.com or the Folio Writer Android app.
2. Sign in to the account you want to delete.
3. Go to Settings (tap your profile / Folio in the chat list header).
4. Open the Profile section.
5. Scroll to Delete account and tap Delete my account.
6. Confirm in the dialog. You will be signed out immediately.

Export any manuscripts you want to keep first (DOCX export from chat info in the app).

Data deleted with your account

• Your profile (email, display name, username, password hash)
• Manuscripts you own with no other members, including chapters, scenes, characters, notes, and chat history
• Your LLM provider configuration and encrypted API keys stored with us
• Friend connections, invites, and your chat memberships
• Notification preferences, push device registrations, and presence data
• Subscription records we store for your account

Data that may be kept after account deletion

• Shared manuscripts you own with other members: ownership transfers to another member (preferring an admin). The chat and its content stay for the remaining members.
• Shared manuscripts you do not own: your membership is removed; content you did not own may remain for other members.
• LLM providers you used: messages and context previously sent to an LLM API you configured may remain under that provider’s retention policy. We do not control third-party providers.
• Google Play: active subscriptions must be canceled separately in Google Play subscriptions. Deleting your Folio account does not cancel Play billing automatically.
• Backups and logs: encrypted backups and server logs may retain data for a limited period before automatic purging (see Retention period below).

Request deletion by email

If you cannot use the app, or need help deleting specific data, email folio@mb-ost.com from the email address on your Folio Writer account. Tell us what you want deleted (for example: one chat, all LLM keys, or your full account). We will verify your identity and process the request.

Retention period

Data you delete in the app, or that we delete after your account closure, is removed from our primary systems promptly. Residual encrypted backups and operational logs may retain copies for up to 30 days before automatic purging, except where we must retain information for legal or security obligations.
